Are you wondering how long does it take for Google to index a new website? The answer varies. Some people report 4 days to 4 weeks on average. Others have seen indexing based on the size of the website. For example, 3-4 weeks if your site has less than 500 pages, 2-3 months for sites with 500-25,000 pages and 4-12 months for websites with 25,000+ pages.

People ask the same question in different ways. It all comes down to the same answer. To get Google to crawl your site, you have to submit your request. See below for the steps. Indexing is a different story.

Please keep in mind that crawling and indexing are two different things. Search engines will use crawl bots to evaluate your pages, but they are only indexed if no errors are found. They crawl and then index. The trick is getting them to crawl your site or pages faster.

How to Get Google to Crawl Your Site

Log in to your Google account and access the Google Search Console. It will open in a new tab.
Select a property. If you have a new site and want to submit your main domain, select Domain. If you have a specific URL you want crawled, select URL prefix.
Click on URL Inspection from the left sidebar menu.
Submit either your homepage URL or the URL for a specific blog post or page in the top search field.
Click the REQUEST INDEXING link.
Be sure to check the URL in the Inspection Tool regularly to monitor updates.

As mentioned above, your site URLs are indexed after they are crawled and found suitable for indexing. Indexing factors include:

Page load speed. Google has confirmed that page load speed is a major factor in their ranking process. They want to deliver a smooth and easily accessibly user experience. Your hosting, image and video sizes, redirects and plugins all impact how quickly your pages load. Audit and optimize these details and you will find you pages loading much faster.
Site security. Since Google has a reputation to protect, they want to make sure they are only indexing sites and pages that are safe and secure. Therefore, they index and rank secure sites higher than insecure websites.
Contact, Terms and Privacy pages. Google wants to make sure you website is legit. If you are a local business, they want to see real business information. Especially helpful are Facebook and Google My Business pages, positive reviews and real contact information.
Site age and domain authority. 60 percent of sites that rank the highest are at least three years old. Websites under one year old, tend to have a harder time ranking in search engines because the search engine trust factor has not yet been established. There are ways around this!
Backlinks and social signals. Social media shares are indicative of valuable content. When your content makes its rounds on social media, search engines tend to rank it higher. Additionally, all the shares will generate more backlinks to your website.
Content quality. Search engines are looking for pages that provide value. Blog posts and articles that deliver helpful information are indexed and ranked faster. Optimizing your pages with the right keywords, formatting and structure will help your posts get indexed faster.

Once you have optimized your site and your blog posts, simply follow the same process above for crawling your pages. If the crawl bot deems your pages worthy, they will be indexed.
